Capital Pride Parade and Festival

Capital Pride is the Capital Region's main Pride parade and festival, produced by the Pride Center of the Capital Region. The parade travels down State Street, Lark Street and Madison Avenue and ends at a festival in Albany's Washington Park. Proceeds support the Pride Center, which has served the community since 1970.

Capital Pride is produced by the Pride Center of the Capital Region, which describes itself as the oldest continuously operating LGBTQIA+ community center in the country. Based in Albany, the center has served LGBTQIA+ people across a 10-county region since 1970. Its home base is at 332 Hudson Avenue, and it also runs programs in communities throughout the region.

The center's mission is to promote the wellbeing of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer-identified people, as well as anyone affected by discrimination based on gender identity or expression. Its programs address health and human service needs and include education and advocacy aimed at the broader Capital Region.

The center positions itself as a safe space where people can explore and express who they are regardless of attraction or gender, and as a resource for anyone working toward a more inclusive region. It relies on volunteers, donations and sponsorships, and it keeps a calendar of groups and programs that run throughout the year beyond Pride.

Pride events celebrate LGBTQ+ people and mark the Stonewall uprising of June 1969. Most combine a parade or march with a festival of performers, community groups, vendors and food.
