Niles Pride Walk and Picnic

Niles Pride, a local LGBTQIA+ community group, hosts an annual Pride Walk at Kirk Lane Park. The event opens with short speeches, continues with a one-mile walk, ride or roll through the neighborhood, and ends with a free picnic in the park.

Niles Pride is a community group of LGBTQIA+ people and allies supporting the LGBTQIA+ population in Niles and nearby suburbs. It promotes gender identity and expression and consensual love in all its forms, and it held its fourth annual Pride Walk in 2026. Local community groups that want to take part can contact the organizers by email.

After the walk, the free picnic has included lunch from Kappy's, caramel apples from Affy Tapple, snacks, water and cupcakes, along with activities in the park. Participants are encouraged to bring colors, rainbows, flags and banners. If heavy rain or thunderstorms hit, the event still happens, moving indoors to the first-floor Common Room at the Niles-Maine District Library with a slightly later start.

The group also encourages people to be active allies year-round: welcoming LGBTQIA+ neighbors as equal members of the community, learning about legislation that affects them, contacting elected officials and donating to organizations such as The Trevor Project, Equality Illinois, Chicago House, PFLAG and GLAAD.

Pride events celebrate LGBTQ+ people and mark the Stonewall uprising of June 1969. Most combine a parade or march with a festival of performers, community groups, vendors and food.

The organizer has not announced dates for 2027 yet. In 2026 it was held June 6, 2026. It usually falls first Saturday of June.
