Queer Liberation March

The Queer Liberation March is a grassroots protest march organized by the Reclaim Pride Coalition on the same day as the NYC Pride March. It was first held in 2019 as an alternative without corporate sponsors or police participation, and volunteer marshals manage the route through Lower Manhattan.

The Reclaim Pride Coalition is a grassroots collective of organizers and activists that formed in response to the commercialization of Pride events. Its short motto rejects corporations and police, and it has organized the Queer Liberation March every June since 2019 to honor the spirit of the Stonewall Riots and center the most marginalized members of the LGBTQIA2S+ community.

The coalition draws on a history that includes the 1969 Stonewall Rebellion, the Compton's Cafeteria protest, Street Transvestite Action Revolutionaries and the Gay Liberation Front. Its principles include resisting police and state oppression, opposing the exploitation of queer communities for profit, challenging all forms of discrimination, affirming healthcare, including HIV care and prevention, as a right, and standing in solidarity with other oppressed groups. It argues that corporate sponsorship, heavy police presence and barricades separating marchers from spectators have pulled many Prides away from their roots.

The 2026 march took the theme Breaking the Chains of War and Oppression for Trans and Immigrant Rights. Marchers assembled at Union Square West in the afternoon and walked to Foley Square.

This community event celebrates LGBTQ+ people and is organized by and for its local community.

The organizer has not announced dates for 2027 yet. In 2026 it was held June 28, 2026. It usually falls last Sunday in June, same day as the NYC Pride March.
