Sylva Pride

Sylva Pride is a Pride celebration in the Jackson County mountain town of Sylva that has grown from a small local gathering into a full weekend. The 2026 weekend ran September 18 to 20. The group also hosts year-round events such as karaoke, story time and movie nights.

Sylva Pride was founded in 2021 by a small team of local organizers, just months before the first Sylva Pride festival on September 4, 2021. That first festival included a parade on Main Street, live music, family-friendly drag shows, local vendors and on-site T-shirt printing, and the event has grown each year since.

The organization works year-round to increase access and visibility for queer people in Western North Carolina. Its aim is to encourage LGBTQ+ pride while recognizing the long queer history of the region and supporting local organizing. The festival is held in late summer, once the peak heat has passed.

Between festivals, Sylva Pride keeps people connected through events such as karaoke, story time, an Adventure Club and movie nights for LGBTQ+ people of all ages. Much of its festival photography comes from the community, including Terri Clark Photography in downtown Sylva, and visitors can find lodging and dining information through Discover Jackson County.

Pride events celebrate LGBTQ+ people and mark the Stonewall uprising of June 1969. Most combine a parade or march with a festival of performers, community groups, vendors and food.

Sylva Pride has included weekend festival and community events.

The organizer has not announced dates for 2027 yet. In 2026 it was held September 18-20, 2026. It usually falls mid to late September.
