Pittsburgh Black Pride

Pittsburgh Black Pride provides educational, social, political and cultural resources for Black LGBTQ people in the region. Its annual celebration weekend includes a welcome reception and a drag show, and 2026 was the 31st celebration.

Pittsburgh Black Pride has been active since 1995, making it one of the oldest Black Pride celebrations in the United States. It began because the Pittsburgh area lacked safe and affirming spaces for Black LGBTQIA people, especially youth and their families, and its founders set out to reduce the community's exposure to problems such as poor access to healthcare, HIV and other infections, poverty, incarceration and isolation.

Over three decades the association has offered concerts and dance events, health fairs, barbecues, parties and happy hours, all aimed at helping Black LGBTQIA people in Southwest Pennsylvania live healthier and more connected lives. Its annual week-long celebration mixes cultural activities, social gatherings and health programming, and it gives people a place to build networks and learn about issues affecting both the LGBTQIA and Black communities.

The celebration is grassroots and has no performance budget, but it invites Black LGBTQIA+ artists and performers to apply to take part. The group also holds events outside the summer, such as a Halloween party and pageant, and recruits committee members and volunteers to plan the week.

The organizer has not announced dates for 2027 yet. In 2026 it was held July 24-26, 2026. It usually falls late July weekend.
