San Diego Pride Dyke March

The San Diego Pride Dyke March is a community-centered march and celebration that kicks off San Diego Pride Week. Organizers describe it as an act of visibility, resistance, joy and solidarity, and they brought it back at a time when LGBTQIA+ communities face renewed attacks on their rights, health care and freedom of expression.

In this setting, the word dyke is used not as a narrow label but as an energy grounded in courage, resistance and a refusal to be erased. The march celebrates queer women, lesbians, trans women, gender-expansive people and anyone who feels connected to that spirit. The route runs along University Avenue in Hillcrest, from Mo's to Gossip Grill.

The march is one of several events that open Pride Week, alongside an interfaith celebration at St. Paul's Episcopal Cathedral, after which the cathedral is lit in rainbow colors, and a Pride flag raising with speakers and recognition of LGBTQIA+ leaders. San Diego Pride, the 501(c)(3) nonprofit behind the week, also runs a Pride 5K that raises money for its programs and The LGBT Center's Youth Housing Project, a parade that draws more than 250,000 spectators and a festival in Balboa Park. Its advocacy and community programs continue throughout the year.

Dyke Marches are grassroots marches for lesbian, bisexual and queer women and gender-expansive people, usually non-commercial and often held the same weekend as the city's main Pride.
