About State College Pride Parade and Fair
State College Pride starts with a morning parade of marchers and floats, followed by a fair with carnival games, food, music and face painting. It is organized by Centre LGBT+.
Centre LGBT+ was founded in August 2014, when community members met to talk about preventing LGBT+ suicides in the area and decided to build a grassroots group focused on improving the lives of LGBT+ people and their families and friends. Its mission is to bring the community together through LGBT+ education, advocacy and activities in the Centre region.
The group began with open-mic nights at Webster's and a community and business fair, and it has grown largely in response to requests. Teens asked for activities, which led to the annual True to You youth summit and the Bring Your Own Queer youth group. It also runs support groups for LGBT+ people and for their loved ones, Drag Bingo, the Gayla party, movie nights, wig and makeup workshops and a clothing closet. It now has its own physical space and is the only LGBT+ organization in Centre County.
