Cherry Grove Pride Parade

The Cherry Grove Pride Parade is a community parade in the historic LGBTQ+ beach community of Cherry Grove on Fire Island. It is presented by the Arts Project of Cherry Grove.

The parade is presented by the Arts Project of Cherry Grove, a 501(c)(3) founded in 1948 that describes itself as the oldest known LGBTQ theater in America. Its first production was a fundraiser, the Cherry Grove Follies of 1948, and the group has been central to community life in the Grove ever since. Its purpose is to share the history of Cherry Grove as a safe haven for LGBTQ people and allies and to offer an openly queer space where artists can create without censorship.

The Arts Project's home, the Community House, was added to the New York State and National Registers of Historic Places on June 4, 2013, after resident Carl Luss researched and wrote the nomination. It was one of three sites then recognized for their importance to LGBTQ history, alongside the Stonewall Inn in New York City and Frank Kameny's home in Washington, D.C.

Cherry Grove sits on Fire Island, a narrow barrier island about 31 miles long off Long Island. Since the 1920s it has drawn artistic vacationers from New York City and grown into one of the country's best-known LGBTQ summer destinations.

Pride events celebrate LGBTQ+ people and mark the Stonewall uprising of June 1969. Most combine a parade or march with a festival of performers, community groups, vendors and food.

The organizer has not announced dates for 2027 yet. In 2026 it was held June 27, 2026. It usually falls last Saturday in June.
