About Long Island Pride
Long Island Pride is produced by the NY LGBT Network in Huntington Village. The parade starts at Clinton Avenue and Main Street and proceeds down Main Street to Heckscher Park, where PrideFest offers live entertainment, vendor booths and food. 2026 marked 36 years of the event.
Long Island Pride began in 1991, when a small group of activists applied for a permit to hold the first Long Island Pride Parade and were turned down. They took the town to court and won. Co-founders David Kilmnick, Cara Wilson, Steve Heneghan and Leah Gustavson led that first grassroots, all-volunteer march in Huntington Village. It has since become a flagship program of the New York LGBT Network.
The day now includes the parade, a festival and a live concert in Heckscher Park. The parade and festival are free and open to all ages, with family zones, while VIP areas, reserved seating and vendor space are available for a cost. Past years have featured performers such as Tina Burner and grand marshals including singer-songwriter Ryan Cassata and the New York chapter of Free Mom Hugs.
Proceeds go back into the Network's programs, which work on safer schools, support for LGBTQ+ youth and seniors, health equity and civil rights. In 2025, more than 150,000 people took part in Pride events across Long Island, Queens and the North Fork under the theme Defiant Joy.
