About San Francisco Black Pride Week

San Francisco Black Pride Week is a week of events celebrating Black LGBTQ+ joy in San Francisco, including a block party. The organization also holds programming through the year.

San Francisco Black Pride started after local artist and activist LBXX, also known as Gyasi Curry, posted an Instagram Reel asking why the city had no dedicated Black Pride celebration like other major cities. Within a day, hundreds of queer Black artists, DJs and organizers responded, ready to help build one.

That online response turned into a volunteer-led effort that produced the city's first official SF Black Pride Week in August 2025. The organization now describes itself as the official year-round celebration of queer Black pride in San Francisco, offering social gatherings, support groups and educational workshops, and it relies on volunteers who can give anywhere from a few hours a week to a few hours a month.
