Peekskill Family Pride in the Park

Peekskill Pride hosts Family Pride in the Park each June at Pugsley Park. 2026 was the sixth annual edition.

Peekskill Pride grew out of a social support network that a group of LGBTQ+ residents formed in the summer of 2016. The goal was to raise visibility and show visitors and newcomers that Peekskill has a strong, welcoming queer community. The group incorporated as a 501(c)(3) in 2019 with a mission to foster safe, healthy and supportive environments for LGBTQIA+ people of all ages, their allies and families through education, advocacy and celebration.

The city's own Peekskill Pride flag was designed by longtime resident and artist CR Johnson. It shows the Hudson River landscape in silhouette against the rainbow flag Gilbert Baker designed in 1978, meant to express pride in both the LGBTQIA+ community and the city itself.

Family Pride in the Park is free for all ages and happens rain or shine, with an official after party at Gleason's. Pride Month opens with a kickoff at City Hall, and the calendar has also included a theater collaboration with Studio Theater in Exile and a Halfway to Pride winter drag brunch. The group marches with Stella the Trolley in the city's July 4th parade and, with Fourth Fridays, runs a free monthly social group in downtown Peekskill for LGBTQIA+ high school students and allies from Westchester and nearby counties.

Pride events celebrate LGBTQ+ people and mark the Stonewall uprising of June 1969. Most combine a parade or march with a festival of performers, community groups, vendors and food.

Peekskill Family Pride in the Park has included festival and family events.

The organizer has not announced dates for 2027 yet. In 2026 it was held June 27, 2026. It usually falls last Saturday in June.
